In the 1997 local elections, Mr. Krishna Khand had competed for the post of Mayor for Waling as the candidate from the Nepali Communist Party (UML); he was just 27 then. He’s also the candidate from UML for the 2013 constituent assembly elections.
A graduate of Political Science, Mr. Khand worked as a teacher at the Shree Purnamrit Bhawani Secondary School, Waling, for ten years. He has also been involved with various organizations in different capacities. A few posts he’s held so far include chairman of the board of directors of Waling Multiple Campus, advisor to the Waling Chamber of Commerce and Industries, chairman of the District Sports Development Committee, Syangja, and Chairman of Kalika Microfinance Ltd.
While taking office as the Mayor of Waling, Mr. Khand said that strengthening sectors such as agriculture, tourism, and small industries is crucial for the municipality’s economic development. He also emphasized the importance of adaptation and usage of new technologies in bringing change in the life of Waling citizens. Mr. Khand has expressed commitment to upgrading the post- natal care facilities at the Garhaun Primary Hospital in Waling and improving the roads in the rural parts of the municipality.
