Damak Municipality
Established in 1990, Damak municipality lies in the Jhapa district in the south-eastern Terai of Province 1. It is the second-largest city (area 75.85 km.sq.) of the district after Birtamode. This municipality touches Morang district in the West and Ilam District in the North. Mahendra Highway (the longest highway in Nepal) crosses this municipality.

Mr. Ram Kumar Thapa
Mayor
Mr. Ram Kumar Thapa is a veteran politician who started his political journey during his student life. Before being elected as the mayor of Damak Municipality through the 2022 election as the candidate of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP). Previously, Mr. Thapa served as a Mayor of the Damak Municipality in 2005 in a capacity of nominated Mayor at a time when elections were abrupted in the country. He also served as an elected ward chairperson from 1982 to 1990 AD. Mr. Thapa has been affiliated with Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) since 1989. Currently. he is the Central Committee Member of the RPP and party president of the provincial committee of Koshi Province. Beyond the political sphere, he has also served as Executive Chairman of the National Tea and Coffee Development Board and a member of Damak Multiple Campus Management Committee. Mr. Thapa graduated in Political Science.
Ms. Regina Bhattarai
Deputy Mayor
Ms. Regina Bhattarai Prasai won the local election in 2022 as the candidate of the Nepali Congress party and has been actively involved with the party for over two decades. She has held various positions within the party, such as party general convention representative, president of the Ward Women’s Association Damak, member of the Nepali Congress Parliamentary Board, and member of the Party Provincial Committee of the Koshi Province. She is also a member of the Provincial Coordinating Council of Koshi Province, chaired by the Chief Minister of the Province. Ms. Prasai has completed her MPhil in Psychology from Tribhuvan University and has also been involved in social work. She has worked as a vice president of the Rotary Club of Damak, president of Lions of Sewika, and president of Damak Junior Chamber International (JCI).
