Situated in the Kailali district of Sudurpaschim Province, Tikapur Municipality was established in 1997 AD. As per the decision of the Council of Ministers on March 10, 2013, the former Tikapur Municipality, Narayanpur and Dhansinghpur VDCs have been relocated. The present Greater Tikapur Municipality has been established by merging in one place. Karnali river flows on the East of the municipality while India lies on the South. Most people in the municipality are engaged in Agriculture and few are employed in Trade and Service.
Mr. Ram Lal D. Tharu has been in active politics since his youth. In the 2017 election, he was elected as the chairperson of ward no 7 of Tikapur. He contested the election in 2022 from the Nagarik Unmukti Party, before that he in the Maoist Center Party for 17 years. He even served as an area commander in the Maoist Party. As a mayor, he has focused on establishing a peaceful and inclusive environment in the municipality.

Mr. Khadak Bahadur Shah Maoist Center Party since the People’s War period and continues to be associated with it. Before being elected as the deputy mayor of Tikapur, he served as the chairman of Karnali Secondary School. He is known for taking the school to new heights and establishing it as one of the best government schools in the district with his management skills and had a successful tenure on the management He also served as the the municipal in-charge of the Maoist Center party of Tikapur.
As a Deputy Mayor, Mr. Shah is highly focused on strengthening local government mechanisms for good governance, effective service delivery to the people, deliberative democratic processes, and prioritization of community mobilization through local initiatives.
